1959 Chevrolet Corvette Photo Gallery
Here is another rare car Last Chance Auto Restore.com is working on.

A 1959 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible! There were only 9,670 Corvettes built for the 1959 model year.

Of the 9,670 built, only 805 were painted this two tone exterior of red with a white cove!

This Corvette has the preferred (and very desirable) 4 speed manual transmission with a white soft top.

We located this nice Corvette in the lower U.S. for a client and Last Chance Auto Restore.com arranged the purchase, shipping and Customs paperwork for both U.S. and Canadian Customs.

Now that this rare Corvette has arrived at Last Chance, we will be performing a Safety Inspection along with a Cosmetic Inspection and making sure our client has a nice classic reliable ride!

With the safety inspection performed, a list of parts to order was compiled.

It was noted that all 4 brake wheel cylinders were leaking and all 4 brake drums were under safe measurement specs. The shoes were in good condition and had been recently replaced.

The clutch components and linkage from the back of the clutch pedal to the transmission were binding up and most of the parts were badly rusted and worn out.

There was some questionable previous repairs performed that will need to be removed and replaced.

The upper and lower control arms on both driver and passenger sides had excessive play and needed replacing (they are still the originals from 1959).

Most of the lights did not work on the Corvette. The signal lights did not work either, nor did the windshield wipers.

The front hood did not open or close (the release cables were seized) and the hood plates and receivers were loose and out of adjustment. The accelerator pedal base was broken and the accelerator cable was rubbing against an under hood shield.

Wiring under the dash was quite scary.....there were countless live wires hanging behind and under the dashboard. The defroster vent controls were not working (we later discovered they were all dis connected.

One of the latches for the convertible top was seized and inoperative. There was nothing holding the battery in place, it just required a new battery hold down kit.

The brakes were repaired, the new brake drums were degreased, cleaned and painted black before they were installed. The rear brakes were adjusted, parking brake pivots were lubricated and adjusted and the parking brake now works!

The upper and lower control arms were replaced on both sides. (The Corvette will be taken for an alignment after our work is completed and before the car is delivered to our client).

A new hood release cable was replaced and the hood pins and receivers were adjusted for proper opening and closing of the front hood.

All of the nasty wiring from under the dash was removed and repaired correctly. All of the electrical contacts were cleaned and re connected properly too. The original looking signal switch was replaced with a new one (we upgraded the switch to a canceling style).

With all of the wiring repaired, all of the lights now work as they should. The wiper motor was dis assembled and we tried to repair the motor and contacts, but it requires replacement.

We located a rebuilt wiper motor and will be replacing it next. The new convertible latches were installed along with the rest of the interior components needed.

With all of the issues taken care of, this beautiful Corvette was treated to a nice polishing job and is ready for years fun driving!
